Metabolic Syndrome is a combination of health risk factors that can cause symptoms of ill health on their own, however it is the long-term effects of the syndrome that can lead to bigger problems.

Lifestyle ProgramsThere are four health risk factors that combine to form metabolic syndrome; being overweight; high blood sugars; high blood fats; and high blood pressure. Being inactive and being a smoker are two contributors to metabolic syndrome.
Metabolic Syndrome can lead to a range of problems from type two diabetes, heart disease, gall stones, some cancers, gastrointestinal problems, and poly-cystic ovarian syndrome. Of these heart disease and diabetes are the biggest potential problems with diabetes being particularly unpleasant because it can lead to blindness, kidney failure and the removal of a limb.
You may have only one or two of the four health risk factors or you may have all four. By eating the right foods, keeping active and keeping your weight down you can slow the rate of progression or even reverse it and thus reduce the chances of later illness.
